Prince William Divorces Kate Middleton After 5 Weeks
'I Made A Terrible Mistake' Says Heir To British Throne
LONDON—Barely a month after marrying 29-year-old Kate Middleton in a royal wedding ceremony watched by an estimated 2 billion people worldwide, Prince William announced Tuesday that he and Middleton have divorced and that the entire marriage was "a tremendous mistake in every possible regard." "I really don't know what I was thinking—we're a terrible match, I don't love her and never have, and, to be honest, I never really had any interest in being married in the first place," announced the now unattached Prince William to a dead-silent British press corps. "People thought our wedding was some sort of fairy tale, but I assure you it was all just some ghastly ceremonial farce that got out of hand. I'm just relieved it's over, frankly. And I'm glad I'll never have to see that awful woman again." Prince William then told the assembled reporters, "Well, see you all later," smiled, and walked back into Buckingham Palace.

A parody story: "Prince William and Kate Middleton divorced" goes viral, fooling Internet bloggers
What started out as a hoax has taken on a life of its on, and fooled Internet bloggers. In the best tradition of British humor, the news brief about Prince William and Kate Middleton being divorced is just that - a parody.
The headline: "Prince William Divorces Kate Middleton After 5 Weeks" was reported yesterday by The Onion Web site. The Onion is well known for its parody of news, even making it up. And if you read the report carefully, you will find the headline and the story is nothing more than a joke.
In the first paragraph of the story, Prince William is quoted to have said the marriage was "a tremendous mistake in every possible regard.” And as you read it, the quotes are something that royalty would never say, such as calling the future queen an "awful woman."
None of the network news stations, nor have any of the traditional news media, reported such an event.
However, this parody has been taken literally, and has gone viral. Internet search engine Google has pages and pages of blogs and other Web sites that have picked up the news, while leaving their readers to fend for themselves. Since The Onion has published their report, a search on "Prince William divorces Kate" brings up more than 14,000 results.
The original Onion report says: "Barely a month after marrying 29-year-old Kate Middleton in a royal wedding ceremony watched by an estimated 2 billion people worldwide, Prince William announced Tuesday that he and Middleton have divorced and that the entire marriage was "a tremendous mistake in every possible regard."
The report also quoted Prince William as saying that he will be glad to "never see that awful woman again."
The way the report is written, they claim that Prince William announced this to the British Press, then ended his announcement saying, "Well, see you all later," then smiled before heading back to Buckingham Palace.
The last legitimate news report has the couple happily married.
